Quick answer: There is no way to download your e-Aadhaar without an OTP if you use the UIDAI website, mAadhaar app, or DigiLocker; all three send a one-time password to the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar. If you no longer have that number, you have two real options: visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra with biometrics to get a printed copy or update your mobile number (₹50), or order a PVC Aadhaar card by post, which can be done with an OTP sent to any mobile number. This guide covers each route and the “Order Aadhaar PVC” trick most people miss.
Why “without OTP” does not really exist
UIDAI treats the registered mobile number as the identity check for online services. Every download path, including the older “Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC” and the Umang app, verifies an OTP on that number. Websites that promise Aadhaar download by name and date of birth only, with no OTP, are either outdated or scams collecting your details. The steps below are the only legitimate ones as of 2026.
Option 1: You have the registered mobile (standard download, 2 minutes)
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click Download Aadhaar.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, or the 16-digit Virtual ID, or the 28-digit Enrolment ID from your acknowledgement slip.
- Enter the captcha and click Send OTP; the OTP arrives on the registered mobile.
- Tick “Masked Aadhaar” if you want the first 8 digits hidden (safer for sharing with hotels and offices).
- Click Verify and Download. The PDF is password-protected.
PDF password: the first four letters of your name in CAPITALS followed by your birth year. For Ravi Kumar born in 1990, it is RAVI1990. For a three-letter name like Sai, use SAI plus the year.
Option 2: You do not have the registered mobile
A. Order a PVC Aadhaar card (works with any mobile)
This is the route almost nobody knows. UIDAI lets you order a physical PVC Aadhaar card for ₹50 using an OTP sent to any mobile number, registered or not.
- On myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, click Order Aadhaar PVC Card.
- Enter Aadhaar number and captcha, then tick “My mobile number is not registered”.
- Enter any mobile number you have access to and verify the OTP.
- Pay ₹50 by UPI, card, or net banking.
- The card is printed by UIDAI and delivered by Speed Post in about 5 to 15 days. You can track it with the SRN.
You will not see the Aadhaar details on screen (for privacy), but you get a durable card with QR code that is accepted everywhere.
B. Visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre
Any Aadhaar centre can verify you by fingerprint or iris and either print a copy of your e-Aadhaar (₹30) or update your mobile number (₹50). Once the new number is active, usually within a few days, Option 1 works. Find the nearest centre at bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/aadhaar or through the “Locate an Enrolment Centre” link on the UIDAI site. Book a slot online at appointments.uidai.gov.in to skip the queue.
C. Ask for a reprint by post (if you have the Enrolment ID)
If you have the enrolment slip from when Aadhaar was made, the PVC order above accepts the 28-digit EID too, so you can order even without knowing your Aadhaar number.
Other ways people try, and why they fail
| Method | Does it work without OTP? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| mAadhaar app | No | Needs OTP to the registered mobile |
| DigiLocker | No | Fetches Aadhaar only after Aadhaar-linked OTP |
| Umang app | No | Same UIDAI OTP flow |
| “Retrieve lost Aadhaar” on UIDAI site | No | Also sends OTP to the registered number |
| Third-party “Aadhaar download” websites | No | Not authorised; risk of data theft |
| Order PVC card | Yes | ₹50, any mobile number |
| Aadhaar Seva Kendra | Yes | Biometric verification in person |
Keep this from happening again
- Update your mobile number the moment you change it; it takes one centre visit and ₹50.
- Save a masked e-Aadhaar PDF in your phone and in DigiLocker.
- Note down your Virtual ID (VID) from the UIDAI site; it can be used instead of the Aadhaar number for most verifications.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download Aadhaar using only my name and date of birth?
No. The “Retrieve Aadhaar” feature accepts name and date of birth but still sends an OTP to the registered mobile.
Is the PVC card valid as proof?
Yes. It carries a secure QR code and is accepted wherever Aadhaar is, including banks and airports.
How long does a mobile number update take?
Typically 3 to 7 days after the centre visit. You get an SMS when it is active.
Is e-Aadhaar as valid as the original letter?
Yes. UIDAI states that a downloaded e-Aadhaar with the digital signature is equally valid.
